Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA)

The Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) is a federal program that offers financial compensation to individuals who suffer from specific illnesses tied to radiation exposure from atomic weapons testing or uranium industry employment.

The program was reauthorized this year and expanded to include individuals living or working in parts of St. Louis City, St. Louis County, and St. Charles County.

Living individuals must have been physically present in an affected community for at least two years after Jan 1, 1949, and later diagnosed with a specified disease.

Authorized agents or beneficiaries of deceased individuals may file a claim if the deceased met the same criteria as above and passed away from one of the specified diseases.

The Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) is a federal program that offers financial compensation to individuals who have suffered from specific illnesses due to radiation exposure from atomic weapons testing or uranium industry employment. It acknowledges the health consequences faced by many Americans, including those in Missouri.

RECA eligibility is specific, covering certain groups of people who lived or worked in designated areas. Eligible individuals may file a claim with the Department of Justice. The deadline to file a claim is December 31, 2027.
