Set a minimum time bills go from 1st reading to final reading

Paula Kyla Oudshoorn•7 months ago Lately, we have seen bills moving far too quickly from 1st reading, passing out of committee, and onto final passage. 2 weeks has become a common thing, and it's not enough time for research and thoughtful consideration by both the public and the Board. A minimum of 30 days would give all parties time to evaluate the bill/ordinance. Most residents work and struggle to keep up with this rapid pace.

With regulations in place, Data Centers are just another new technology.

Paula Kyla Oudshoorn•8 months ago I don't think Data Centers are a "hair on fire" topic. With proper regulation, they will benefit our city and our tax base. Our grid is very outdated nationwide, this new business model could prove to be the catalyst for needed upgrades. St Louis tends to shun any new development or change, and that is why we continue to fall behind. It's time to be bold and take action instead of funding another study about some mythical magic bullet for transformation, which is never implemented. We have 18 in the city now, so we can easily analyze the impact they have had to make good decisions. We have smart people. Alderman Browning is adept at projections and development analysis; it takes a plan that's all.

Keep the Rams money invested and only use interest gained annually.

Paula Kyla Oudshoorn•2 years ago We have less than 1/4 of the ARPA money spent to date. Just leave the Rams money invested and use the interest annually on city services. NO need to spend it now at all!

Require water meters for all new development

Paula Kyla Oudshoorn•7 months ago The city should require a water meter for all new development and maybe think about a program offering a discount for people rehabbing a home to live in (could even be free). Also, offering a discount for the new water line that is mandated for those small fix & flip folks.

No road diets on our arterial roads

Paula Kyla Oudshoorn•9 months ago Road diets on arterial streets will push traffic into our neighborhoods to avoid the congestion. Any plans to make changes to the higher traffic roadways should have the police, fire department, and hospitals at the table during the discussion.

Basic services

Paula Kyla Oudshoorn•3 years ago I would like for the bulk of the money to go into an intrest bearing investment account, but we need more trash pickup drivers, police officers, a problem property unit to deal with the vacancy & vagrancy, functioning 911, park & forestry workers, etc. We need to make the city more attractive to those of us taxpayers who live here and make it attractive for more to move into the city. Social programs for the indigent are great but they need a tax base to pay for these programs and little effort is being dedicated to growing the residential and commercial interests that do pay taxes. By focusing on city services to draw and keep the tax-paying population we will have a healthier, safer, sustainable city. Tourists will also appreciate it!
