Updated and Fully Saturated Rules For Bicyclist, Motorist and Pedestrians

From "Share Your Policy Ideas"

Go to the project

Hello,

As Saint Louis becomes more bicycle friendly, and especially with the proliferation of power assisted bicycles the official and enforceable rules of the road needs to be updated and re- published in all media forms addressing Bicyclist, Motorist and Pedestrian behavior. We are seeing some more near misses and arguments happening between these groups.

If only people followed rules. I nearly hit 2 cyclists on Christy Blvd at Eichelberger because they ran the red light and I was turning onto Christy. It scared me to death, and they rode on just like nothing happened.
@Paula Kyla Oudshoorn I’ve been nearly hit by dozens of cars in STL while obeying traffic laws. It scared me to death because I literally could’ve died.

@Paula Kyla Oudshoorn Paula I agree, but "the rules" are not established or well inside the public knowledge sphere. The only rules that I saw published were on 1 page of the drivers handbook years ago.
@Jeremiah Wedding Jeremiah, I agree, but "the rules" are not established or well inside the public knowledge sphere. The only rules that I saw published were on 1 page of the drivers handbook years ago.
@Jeremiah Wedding I completely understand. Just thinking about my near miss of hitting those people makes me tear up. I don't want to hit anyone, and I do follow the rules of the road. But I see cyclist g going through lights often. Are they supposed to stop? Are there city rules for cyclists?
@Paula Kyla Oudshoorn There is nothing definitive except they also must stop at intersections-yield at certain times and they have hand-turn signals (20th century rules). The lack of rule-adherence will force motorist to buy dashboard cameras.
