Replace low-traffic stop lights with roundabouts
From "Share Your Policy Ideas"
Go to the project
Several lower-traffic stop lights in the city should be replaced with roundabouts. Roundabouts keep cars moving smoothly, reduce wait times, and cut down on fuel use and emissions. They’re also proven to be safer, with far fewer serious accidents than traditional intersections. Plus, they save taxpayer money by eliminating the need for costly signal maintenance. Replacing outdated stop lights with roundabouts is a simple way to make our streets safer, greener, and more efficient.

A better idea: remove low-traffic stop lights and replace with a stop sign on the lower traffic street, especially where at least one street is 2 lanes or less.

They would only be safer if people used them safely. I do not think this is a good idea in our city where people already blow through stop signs and red lights without looking.

@Tuesday Badell The point is you CANNOT blow through a roundabout. Problem solved.

Europe is full of roundabouts and traffic moves very well through them. Drivers will blow through stop signs and lights no matter what. I like the roundabouts. I think that they are a better alternative to another stop sign or light.

Round about cause way too many issues. Replace these lights with stop signs instead.

Agree. Cars blow through stop signs (and red lights).

@John Cooper In an ideal world, roundabouts would work, yes but they still speed around those and run over them. One in Forest Park is a good example. Also, your name is cool!

Speeding motorists "run over" roundabouts? News to me. Maybe we need bigger, sturdier roundabouts. Problem solved.
