Prepare the city for Climate Change by Reducing Lots, Increasing Green

As the city is projected to suffer from increasing average temperatures, we should start building the green infrastructure needed to keep St Louis livable. Use of this cash for this goal might include:
- Significantly ramping up street tree planting and pocket park investment.
- Narrowing our streets and using some of the gained space for trees and planters.
- Study/Test/Building the tax structure needed to appropriately tax land value and reduce surface parking lots across the city, specifically Downtown and Downtown West.
- Targeting and eliminating parking minimums for new and existing construction, creating more efficient parking systems and reducing surface lots. Preparing for significant incentives towards transit-oriented development on the Jefferson line.
- Partnering with MOBOT and our universities to create the structures needed to monitor the city's heat island effect and set targeted goals to lower the temps in the city across the coming years.

Reducing the number of parking lots would reduce the heat island effect as well as create an incentive for public transit use.

There are more trees now than there were 100 years ago. The fact that people do not follow actual science and instead try to rewrite scientific fact is a joke and we shouldn't be wasting this type of money on it when this money belongs to everybody not just those pandering to certain ideologies

Trees, trees, and more native trees! Have the city plant street trees and hang some biodegradable signage that says why trees are so beneficial for us all. Have a 2 hour online class for citizens deputized to do minor tree pruning rather than rely on the overworked Forestry department. We'd have better looking and healthier trees if people could prune younger trees and not risk a ticket. Give parking tickets to the people parking right up on a tree trunk and compacting the soil. Post informational signage and hang door tags describing tree benefits on the blocks that struggle to establish trees, so people can properly value the trees and maybe do less to destroy them.

Definitely agree that we need more trees!! It seems only the richer neighborhoods still have their trees. And you can feel the temperature difference driving on a street with trees versus no trees. We need more trees city wide!!!!

Definitely a worthy investment for the future. And since we’re already experiencing the effects of climate change (such as the more frequent torrential rainfalls), we should also use money to beef up infrastructure to be able to handle these effects (such as flooding) at the same time as we try to slow climate change.
