Paving city streets

Street and sidewalk infrastructure and safety measures should be a priority that serves the majority of the City’s population, well before “free” anything for anybody. I get the idea that better pay and childcare may incentivize people to work for the city, but “free” opens the door to “corrupt”. Modernize infrastructure, clean the streets, address crime so people can actually live in the City and more money will come for pet projects.

Forget big and fancy programs. Basic infrastructure is collapsing in the City and stuff like making streets drivable is more important than anything else.

Besides our 1800's infastructure, Spire has been tearing up ALLLLL our streets. We drive over sunken pavement, metal plates, potholes, etc. I had a near $1000 pot hole alignment/wheel replacement/new tire expense from ONE pot hole. Why is Spire or the city not fixing the damn streets?

K, I couldn’t agree with you more. The work being done on the sidewalks & streets south from Salisbury past Natural Bridge Rd to past Market St. the past few months has been challenging for drivers however the end result is beautiful. The workers have done a fabulous job in all kinds of weather & 95% of the drivers I’ve encountered on this road have been cautious and thoughtful during construction. I wish the rest of the City could look so good as the stretch I mentioned above.

Fixing our streets and NOT just downtown has got to be a priority! If leaders who kept quiet during the Slay, Schoemel, Harmon, reigns of our city, now want to forget how long some of our city residents have been waiting...they'd have a different attitude, better yet, why don't we mandate each BOA represented be strapped in a vehicle and driven down every street in St. Louis and direct the driver to NOT miss any rips, potholes, sinks or uneven spots...then maybe...just maybe they would remember that the opposite of poverty is justice!

Anna M. Dorothy Dempsey Fixing our streets and roads are high on many city residents priority list. However funding our children is very important. Saving our children from the many pitfalls in life start at a very early age. Children must be loved, protected. So if childcare is provided so that their parents can go to work knowing that their children are cared for, that alone is a high priority. A human life is more important than a cracked pavement or a hole in the street. Even realizing that those issues can also cause bodily harm. Children are our future. Some parents find it necessary to work, so that they may pay their bills and feed their children. Specifically to stay off welfare and not be considered a charity case. Hopefully there are enough Rams funds to satisfy both priorities.
